HiVAWT DS3000 Receives SWCC Certification

 

We are excited to announce that our HiVAWT DS3000 wind turbine is now certified by the Small Wind Certification Council (ICC-SWCC)! Read the press release from the ICC here.

The ICC-SWCC is a part of ICC-ES, a member of the International Code Council family of companies. It is an independent certification body that certifies small- and medium-sized wind turbines that conform to industry standards in the North American market. Small Wind Certification Council
Colite Technologies is the only authorized company that sells ICC-SWCC certified DS3000 in the United States and it is the first vertical axis wind turbine to be certified under this program. The turbine has been tested for safety, function, performance, and durability, and meets American Wind Energy Association standards.

This certification enables the DS3000 turbine to be eligible for federal and state tax incentives up to 30%for wind energy, which can significantly reduce project costs for customers. Explore the available incentives and policies in each state at the DSIRE website.

It also enables easier consumer comparison of the many wind turbine products on the market, helping to decrease false claims and unethical marketing.


The 2017 Distributed Wind Market Report from the Department of Energy has compared actual performance of small wind turbines over three years to their projected performance to calculate the average percentage of projected production.(1)

The results are summarized below:

The results show that the small certified turbine category, which the DS3000 falls under, had an average production of 92% while the small non-certified turbine category had an average production of 62%.

It is important to note that these figures are dependent on various factors such as available wind resources, siting (where it is located, tower height, local obstructions, etc.), and turbine availability (e.g. downtime for maintenance), and the difference cannot be attributed solely to turbine technology. Therefore, with the right combination of variables, the performance of the turbines could be different.

The certification of the DS3000 opens up many opportunities for distributed wind energy to increase share in the energy mix and promote a more renewable future. It will be interesting to follow the impact of these changes in markets all over the world, starting right here in the U.S.
